Babylon Town Councilman Tom Donnelly recently joined with New York State Assemblyman Robert Sweeney to honor the North Babylon Youth Center for raising over $600 for the Make-A-Wish foundation. Children from the youth center held a car wash and bake sale, which resulted in $617 to be donated to grant a wish to a child diagnosed with a life-threatening disease within the Town of Babylon. The money was presented to the foundation as part of a ceremony at the youth center, where Councilman Donnelly and Assemblyman Sweeney presented the children in attendance with certificates for their community service.
The North Babylon Youth Center took part in this fundraising effort as part of Global Youth Service Day, which is a worldwide celebration of community service and civic engagement. In honor of Global Youth Service Day, the Town of Babylon’s Beautification Program works with over twenty organizations and thousands of youth volunteers to work on community service projects throughout the Town. Past projects have included helping non-profit organizations through food drives and monetary donations, collecting food for the needy, visiting local senior citizens centers, making holiday baskets for hospitalized children, conducting community clean-up efforts and assisting local veterans groups in need.
